About the show

It started
with Cats

BY PHANTOM Sunrise Productions

When an unexpected drop-out from the Fringe Festival opens up an opportunity for self-acclaimed writer/director Xander, he unites his three most available thespians to do the impossible: stage his magnum opus in only a week’s time. Armed with Xander’s (selective) support, a pair of perplexing props, and a script that is (probably) brilliant, thespians Emerson, Quinn, and Blake wonder: will this be the creative breakthrough they’ve been waiting for?

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Phantom Sunrise Productions

Windsor, ON

Phantom Sunrise Productions reunites four actors and friends from Korda Artistic Productions’ 2024 production of Frankenstein. If this description is starting to sound a wee bit similar to Golden Trio Productions’ (Fringe 2025) description, you’ve got a keen eye! You’ll recognize some names from Golden Trio Productions (Boris Gatackic & Abbey Lee Hallett), you’ll (sadly!) be missing one (Dalton Mugridge), and you’ll be noticing two new names (David Sivak & Jamie Taylor). With our numbers eclipsing our previous trio, we had to come up with a shiny new name, born out of a combination of movie titles that several members of the company had recently seen and enjoyed together. We’ll let you guess the movies!

Abbey Lee wants to give a big round of applause and appreciation to Fringe Windsor for encouraging them to keep writing after getting to stage their first play, "Love & Redemption", at Fringe Windsor 2025. "It started with Cats" marks the second play that Abbey Lee has written, and they are incredibly grateful to have the kind support of Fringe and their wonderful castmates. Phantom Sunrise Productions as a whole is ever-grateful to Fringe Windsor for the opportunity to be alternately serious and silly onstage. We also want to give a big shout-out to our friends at Bloomsbury House for offering their beautiful rehearsal space, and our friends at Korda for bringing us all together. We hope you enjoy the show!

We acknowledge that we are on land and surrounded by water that is the traditional territory of the Anishnaabeg people of the Three Fires Confederacy which includes the Ojibwe, Potawatomi, and Odawa.  Before Europeans arrived, the land along both sides of the river was referred to as Waawiyaatanong -- we are grateful to live, work and play in this area.

We give thanks to the land and water for sustaining us and honour the history and culture of all the Indigenous Peoples who have inhabited this area since time immemorial.
